Creative Block is a newsletter that gives you a glimpse into my life as an artist, creativity, design, and music. It's like a little pick-me-up that you get delivered straight to your inbox.
Last month, my wife, Afritina, and I launched a jacket, but we also had a little surprise in store for everyone. Check out the video below to see.
So, yeah... I'm going to be a DAD. It's surreal! Baby Coker is due to arrive in May 2024. I want to take a moment to share what I've been feeling. I'm excited but also a bit nervous. Knowing that I'll soon have another person to care for is a big responsibility, but I'm genuinely excited for this new chapter in our lives.
During this time, I've sometimes struggled with feeling powerless because my wife is the one carrying the baby, and I can't always alleviate her discomfort. However, I've made sure to be present and support her every step of the way. That's why our jacket collaboration meant so much to me. It symbolized the mutual support we have for each other, and witnessing her body change throughout the pregnancy has been nothing short of incredible. It's like observing a live painting, appreciating the transformation, and knowing that the end result will be something beautiful.
As we prepare to welcome our little one into the world, I feel a profound sense of responsibility. I want to be the best Dad I can be to Baby Coker. Growing up, my parents didn't fully grasp the idea of having a career in the creative field, but here I am, living proof that it's possible (praise be to God). I want our child to know that pursuing their passions is achievable. Even if Baby Coker doesn't end up becoming an artist, I simply want them to appreciate art, to find joy in the world, and to see the beauty in life.
On this journey into parenthood, I'm excited to see how our creative passions will influence our child's upbringing. From nursery décor to storytelling, we'll infuse our love for art and creativity into every aspect of their life. And who knows, maybe one day Baby Coker will join us in our creative endeavors, adding their unique flair to our family's artistic legacy.
In the meantime, I'm soaking in every moment of this pregnancy journey, cherishing the anticipation and excitement of welcoming our little bundle of joy into the world. Parenthood may be uncharted territory, but with love, God, creativity, and the support of each other, I know we'll navigate it with grace.
