Creative Block is a weekly newsletter that gives you a glimpse into my life, creativity, design, and music. It's like a little pick-me-up that you get delivered straight to your inbox each week.
My whole outlook on success has gone through a remarkable transformation. In this era dominated by social media, we're constantly pushed to downplay the significance of our smaller milestones and instead focus exclusively on the major accomplishment – the big fish, so to speak.
This pattern can be toxic, causing us to lose sight of the value in celebrating the smaller wins. In truth, these little victories are what make the significant ones so exhilarating. Learning to appreciate the big and small wins equally is essential.
At times, we're our harshest critics, dismissing the significance of our minor successes. This tendency can lead us to complain and disregard the progress we've made on our journey.
I had an experience just last weekend that drove this point home. I had planned to clean out my closet for two weeks but hadn't managed to get around to it. I was being tough on myself for this apparent failure, failing to acknowledge that I had been occupied cleaning other parts of the house, doing dishes, and handling laundry. I'm slowly reminding myself that it's perfectly okay to readjust priorities and that labeling myself as "lazy" is unwarranted.
It's important to recognize that every step counts on our journey towards our goals whatever they may be. Just like a sculptor chips away bit by bit to create a masterpiece, every small achievement is a chisel that shapes our path to success.
So, let's embrace the little victories – the book finished, the dishes cleaned, the closet organized. These are the building blocks of our accomplishments. And remember, every win, whether monumental or minuscule, deserves recognition and celebration. After all, a win is a win, no matter its size.
So rest in that. Take a deep breath and remember — its a marathon not a sprint.
What small or big wins have you had this week?
Please share in the comments so we can celebrate each other.
→A BIG THANK YOU
Limited Edition Work Jacket
Thank you all so much for purchasing my jacket! I’ve sold over half of our inventory (We are almost out). Pre-orders end September 3rd. The journey from sketching the jacket, getting it made, making changes, taking photos, designing the launch, adding it to my shop and making it public have been so rewarding for me. Thank you to those of you who also shared or sent me encouraging messages. Putting this out there to the world was a vulnerable step but I’m glad I did it. I just want to see people wear this jacket and feel beautiful, strong, confident and stylish! A walking art piece!
Jacket will ship early October, 2023.
This is a great lesson. I think it’s so easy to give up when it feels like you aren’t the best at what you’re trying. Thank you for the reminder!
