Creative Block is a weekly newsletter that gives you a glimpse into my life, creativity, design, and music. It's like a little pick-me-up that you get delivered straight to your inbox each week.
Life moves fast—sometimes too fast. We get caught up in the daily grind, and it’s easy to miss the beauty and inspiration right in front of us. We often think inspiration has to come from something grand or extraordinary, but honestly, it’s the simple, everyday moments that hold the most creative potential.
One of the biggest game-changers for tapping into creativity is learning to see inspiration in the routines we often overlook. It’s about training ourselves to find the extraordinary in the ordinary, the remarkable in the mundane.
Take a second and look outside your window. Watch the way sunlight dances through the trees or how shadows stretch across the pavement. Pay attention to the colors of the sky, the rhythm of people moving through their day. There’s inspiration in every detail. The play of light and shadow might spark a new photography idea, the colors of nature could influence a design or painting, or a simple interaction between strangers could fuel the next character for your story.
And then there’s the power of conversations—the stories and experiences of the people around us. Whether it’s a quick chat with a friend or a deep talk with a colleague, everyone’s perspective holds a piece of inspiration. You just have to listen. Sometimes, their stories will ignite new ideas or challenge the way you see things, pushing your creativity in ways you didn’t expect.
Another great way to stay inspired is by immersing yourself in different forms of art. Pick up a book outside your usual genre, dive into new music styles, or spend an afternoon wandering through an art gallery. Let yourself get lost in someone else’s creativity, and watch how it influences your own. These experiences add depth to your work, introducing new ideas, techniques, and aesthetics.
And don’t forget the small stuff—the moments that bring you joy, even if they seem insignificant. It might be the aroma of coffee in the morning, the sound of kids playing in the park, or a quiet moment spent alone with your thoughts. These are the moments that infuse our creativity with a sense of gratitude and wonder.
So, how do we stay inspired? We slow down. We become present. We start noticing the world with fresh eyes (My son is teaching me this). The ordinary moments—the ones we usually overlook—are filled with creative potential.
Inspiration isn’t limited to big gestures or rare events. It’s woven into the fabric of our daily lives. By cultivating a mindset of curiosity and awareness, we open ourselves up to an endless supply of inspiration that fuels our creativity, sparks new ideas, and brings our artistic visions to life.
Let’s embrace the beauty in the everyday. Let it spark something new in us.
