Happy New Year, everyone! We made it. 2024 was… a year, but here we are, ready to take on 2025. I hope this year brings you closer to your goals, big or small, and that you find plenty of reasons to celebrate along the way.
Something I want to get better at this year is documenting my accomplishments. As a multidisciplinary artist, I have this tendency to move from one project to the next so quickly that I rarely stop to appreciate what I’ve done. And when I try to reflect, I sometimes draw a blank, even on the wins that felt huge in the moment.
That’s why, this year, I’m starting an Accomplishment Journal. It’s a place to keep track of everything I’ve done—big and small. A space to look back on when I’m feeling inadequate, ungrateful, or just forgetful. This idea came from a note I saw on Substack last year, and I’m determined to stick with it.
Starting one is simple. You can use your iPhone Notes app, a physical notebook, or whatever works for you. The format doesn’t have to be fancy—it just needs to work for you. Here’s how I plan to organize mine:
Example Entry Format
DATE: (Accomplishment Title)
Description: Write a short explanation of what you did and why it matters to you.
Here’s what one of my entries might look like:
January 4, 2025: First Substack of the Year
I wrote my first Substack of the year, and I’m so proud of it. It’s giving me the momentum I need to start 2025 on the right note.
That’s it. Simple, right?
It’s important to document both the big wins and the small ones—because they all matter. Every step forward deserves acknowledgment. When I looked back at some of the things I managed to write down last year (even though I didn’t do it often), I felt proud. I saw moments that reminded me of how far I’ve come, even in the tough times.
So, I encourage you to try it out. Start an Accomplishment Journal this year. Let it be a reminder of your growth, resilience, and creativity. And when you look back at it in a few months—or at the end of the year—you might be surprised by just how much you’ve accomplished.
What will your first entry be?
Happy New Year, Temi! I'm aiming for us to connect properly in the new year. Also, I'm definitely taking this idea
Love this idea!
